A man convicted of throwing an egg at the governor of Puerto Rico found his goose cooked on Wednesday when he was sentenced to a month in prison for assault. He also received another 30 days for hurling insults at the judge as he was being taken away.
It was in September that Roberto Garcia Diaz incurred his first offense. Governor Luis Fortuno was announcing the creation of jobs related to a marina project when Diaz threw the egg, calling Fortuno a hypocrite and accusing him of taking jobs from people. Seems Diaz was upset at the governor’s earlier announcement that he would cut up to 30,000 public sector jobs in response to the economic crisis.
As he was being taken out of the courtroom today, Diaz added insult to injury by calling the judge a midget and other things. The judge heard the insults and called everyone back into court. That’s when he added the extra time for contempt, according to a court spokeswoman.
